Developing a productivity app from scratch

The development of the Jota application can be named a textbook example of a perfect development process. It began with a kickoff meeting; then the Impressit team presented the prototype. Before we proceeded to the development of the app itself, we were able to estimate the amount of work and divide the development into several stages. Despite the changes in functionality and design that occurred during the development process, the Impressit team was able to fit into the budget and launch the application within the agreed deadlines.

The idea of the Jota application is as genius as it is simple. It was born out of the same experience every person had — losing the links or having to keep them in notes. Thanks to this app, one can save all the links from different browsers and platforms all in one place. Moreover, the user is also able to create separate categories and sort the links accordingly. Simple yet brilliant application that could change the internet browsing both for personal and business purposes.

While working on the application development, changes arose, according to which it was necessary to make adjustments in the development process. Despite this, the application was launched on time and can already be enjoyed by iPhone users.

The Impressit team and the customer cooperated on a few different levels (because the Product Owner was also the designer of the app) — we worked closely together to develop an initial business idea and turn it into a product with the desired functionality, devoting enough time to planning and consulting, as well as together we considered and discussed the design to make the application not only attractive but also user friendly and convenient.

Since we know that the customer does not stop and has big plans for further development of the Jota app, we chose a cross-platform approach, because soon we also plan to develop an Android version of the application. Adding and expanding functionality in future will be easy, as our team has taken care to plan the development in advance so that the scaling of the project is hassle-free.

The Impressit side included both the Project Manager and Business Analyst that allowed us not only to plan the development team’s work properly but also to consult the Product Owner, give valuable advice, and help to make the most of the initial business idea.

It is necessary to add that there are a lot more coming for the Jota app. The Impressit team is ready to work on more functionality. Specifically, to add the social networking component to the app — the possibility to synchronize one’s contacts with the application and share the links among your friends list.

So far, the Jota application is only available on the App Store. So obviously the next step would be to develop the application version for Android.
